Synchronization of the Third Unit in the Steam Section of Ferdowsi Combined-Cycle Power Plant

The third unit in the steam section of Ferdowsi Combined-Cycle Power Plant was successfully synchronized to the Iranian nationwide power grid on Wednesday, July 22, 2026 at 22:45. The remarkable achievement was made in an attempt to increase power generation capacity, enhance grid stability, and respond to increasing demand in northeastern Iran. The unit was connected only seven days following the completion of steam blowout operation, marking a new record that shows the shortest time interval from steam blowout operations to uni synchronization in MAPNA’s projects.

Once put into operation, the steam power section not only boosts power generation efficiency but also contributes effectively to saving fuel and reducing environmental pollution. The project launched for development of the steam section for Ferdowsi Combined-Cycle Power Plant was implemented over a site measuring 60 hectares in area located 25 km to Mashhad-Quchan Road, consisting of three steam turbine units with a rated capacity of 160 megawatts per unit.And as a result of synchronization of the third unit, the 480 megawatts of capacity generated by this unit was completely added to the nationwide power grid. The area covered by this project hosts sixheat recovery steam generators (HRSGs), three units consisting of Type E steam generators and turbines rated at 160 Megawatts, three ACC cooling systems, a 400-KV AIS substation, common facilities, and the main substation directly connected to the power plant. The project was implemented under an EPC contract run by MAPNA Power Plants Construction & Development Company (MD1).

When put into operation, this unit increased the number of MD1’s synchronized power plants unit to 169 units, reaching a total synchronized capacity of 23,095 megawatts.Based on the available estimations and a monthly normal power consumption of 300 kW per household, the generation capacity provided by this power plant unit can supply the power needed by over 345 households under off-peak conditions. under off-peak conditions.
